UPCYCLED MATS

Surplus linen from a Swedish production of tea towels and remnants of 100% Norwegian Spælsau wool from rug weaving are the main materials in Pia Jensen’s hand-woven mats.

Pure upcycling: a practice where discarded or surplus products or materials are refined and given a second life as part of new products. Great in every way. The weaving technique is kilim, and the choice of materials makes a soft Rya mat.

“Upcycling is a great term, and in my hands, surplus fabric from a Swedish production of linen tea towels, where the machine loom weaves the fabric a little too long, is transformed into hardwearing mats. The weaving technique is kilim, and the choice of materials makes a soft Rya mat that is a treat for bare feet.”
